Particle acceleration in the complex galaxy cluster MACS J0717.5+3745

Radio relics and radio halos are diffuse extended synchrotron sources that originate from shock fronts and turbulence generated during cluster mergers. We present new wideband radio observations of the massive merging galaxy cluster MACS J0717.5+3745. The cluster hosts one of the most complex relic-halo systems known to-date. These observations allowed us to constrain the spectral index and curvature properties of the relic and the halo over a broad range of frequencies. In addition, we also present the polarization results of this unique system.
