Astrophysics and cosmology with extreme blazars

Elisa Prandini (Università di Padova)

Tuesday 16/02/2021 @ 14:00, Sala IV piano Battiferro

Extreme blazars are closely aligned, jetted active galactic nuclei whose double-humped, broadband emission is peaked at extremely high energies, exceeding the keV and/or the multi-TeV domain. Recent observations in the X-rays and very-high energy gamma rays (>100 GeV) point to a complex picture for this class of objects. In this seminar the state-of-the-art of experimental and theoretical research aimed at understanding the emission of these extreme accelerators is presented, with special emphasis on the impact on cosmic ray physics and cosmology.
