Latest results on galaxy evolution with the COSMOS-Web survey

After almost two decades, the observational data are still accumulating in the COSMOS field, offering an exceptional and detailed view on galaxy evolution. Thanks to JWST imaging acquired within the last year, our knowledge of the deep Universe has sharpened. We can now study the physical properties of galaxies with an unprecendented precision. After a general context on galaxy evolution, I will show that our general description of the stellar mass assembly is now well established up to the cosmic noon. Our comprehension of the link between dark matter and stellar mass assembly seems to hold. However, JWST has unveiled some surprising bright and massive galaxy populations in the first billion years of the Universe. If confirmed, these results could reshape our understanding of galaxy formation during early times. I will discuss possible physical processes as well as observational limitations. In this presentation, I will also highlight a few exceptional sources discovered by COSMOS-Web, such as a lens galaxy at z=2 and massive candidates at z>10. Finally, I will discuss future prospects with giant surveys like Euclid.
