Fast and Energetic Outflows in Galaxies: Observations vs Simulations

Sylvain Veilleux (University of Maryland)

Thursday 25/06/2026 @ 15:00, Sala Antonio Sollima (IV piano Battiferro)

The physics of fast and energetic outflows in starburst and active galaxies will first be briefly introduced. Next, a critical review of the impact of these outflows on the host galaxies and surrounding environments will be presented with an emphasis on the latest integral field spectroscopic results from JWST and ground-based facilities such as Keck, VLT, and ALMA. These results will be critically compared with recent numerical simulations of dusty multi-phase winds and outflows. Future avenues of research will be discussed at the end.
