Working Above the Clouds: Inside the ALMA Observatory

Andrealuna Pizzetti (ESO - Chile)

Tuesday 03/02/2026 @ 14:00, Sala Antonio Sollima (IV piano Battiferro)

Working at some of the world’s most advanced astronomical observatories offers a unique perspective on how science happens behind the scenes. In this talk, I will share my experience working at the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile and the European Southern Observatory (ESO), offering a glimpse into daily life at high altitude, the challenges of operating cutting-edge telescopes, and the teamwork required to keep them running. Through this journey, I will explore what it means to contribute to global astronomy from some of the most remote and inspiring places on Earth.
