From the Field to the Cluster: The Many Paths of Galaxy Evolution with Euclid

How much living in a dense environment affects the evolution of galaxies remains one of the main open questions in modern astronomy. The advent of a new generation of facilities such as Euclid, Roman, and Rubin promises to be a game changer in this field, providing some of the most accurate three-dimensional maps of the galaxy distribution ever obtained. In this talk, I will present new results based on the first data collected by the Euclid telescope. I will show how the density field traced by hundreds of millions of galaxies can be combined with galaxy properties such as morphology and star formation rate to investigate how galaxies evolve across different environments. I will discuss how the sequence of morphological transformation and quenching changes with environment, how the star-forming main sequence is suppressed in the densest regions, and how rare massive star-forming galaxies in groups provide insights into possible rejuvenation episodes. Together, these results provide a new observational framework for understanding how the interaction between galaxies and their environment regulates their gas supply, star formation, and morphological evolution.
