Taipan is a million galaxy southern hemisphere redshift survey currently in commissioning on the UKST telescope at Siding Spring Observatory in Australia. Goals are a 1% measurement of the baryon acoustic oscillation scale and a ten times increase in the galaxy mapping within redshift 0.25, and its resultant dark matter map from fundamental plane peculiar velocities. The BAO scale (the sound horizon) measures the age of the Universe at recombination, and, in the six parameter *CDM model of cosmology, gives the Hubble Constant.
