The unique capabilities of MUSE have provided new insight into our understanding of the high-redshift Universe, e.g. the observations of a high fraction of Lyman-alpha emitters at z>3 and the discovery of Lyman-alpha emission from the circumgalactic medium around individual galaxies. In particular, MUSE observations of the Hubble deep and ultra-deep fields have enabled the detection of continuum-faint and low-mass galaxies at high redshift. I will present the main results from these deep observations, focusing on the properties of the stellar populations and interstellar medium of z>3 Lyman-alpha emitters, through the exploitation of rest-UV absorption features and high-ionization emission lines. I will conclude with some highlights from the most recent extremely deep (140h) MUSE spectroscopic data.
